Cell Structure

Plant Cell
Animal Cell
Animal Cell

How do you think plant cells differ from animal cells?

Difference
- Plants cells are larger than animal cells.
- Plant cells have chloroplasts unlike animal cells
- Plant cells have a cell wall unlike animal cells
- Animal cells have a centrosome unlike plant cells
- Plant cells have plasticids unlike animal cells
- Vacuoles are conspicuous in plant cells than animal cells i.e. large central vacuole in plant cells

Similarities

Animal cells can be phagocytic (engulf other cells) unlike plant cells
- Cells of Higher plants lack centrioles unlike animal cells.
- Plant cells have plasmodesmata which links pores in the cell wall allow and communication between adjacent cells unlike animal cells.

What are some of the structures inside a cell that helps it to live and performs it's role in a organism?

Some of the structures inside a cell that helps it to live and performs it's role in a organism are... mitochrondria-"powerhouse of cell",plasmamembrane- protects the cell from damage.

An image of what centrioles look like...
The functions of a centrioles-centrioles produce spindle fibres, these are used to pull apart chromosomes in mitosis and meiosis. To organize the motion of the chromogomes.

Cell Structure Vocab Lists

Vocabulary Lists

Cell Wall-a thin membrane around the cytoplasm of a cell; controls passage of substances in and out of the cell.

Chloroplast-are organelles found in plants and eukaryotic algae which conduct photosynthesis

Cytoplasm- is the contents of cells inside the cell membrane, and outside of the nuclear membrane.

Endoplasmic Reticulum- is an important organelle (a structure within the cell that is divided from the cytoplasm by a membrane)

Golgi Apparatus- Its main function is to modify proteins synthesized by ribosomes.

Nucleus- the center of an atom.

Nucleolus-  a small round body of protein in a cell.

Organelle-little organs

Plasma Membrane- membranes, which separate the cell form its environment, work as a filter.

Vesicle- a bladder like structure that works as a filter.

Hela Cells

  1.  A Hela Cell
A HeLa cell  also Hela or hela cell, is a cell type in an immortal cell line used in scientific research. It is the oldest and most commonly used human cell line.[1] The line was derived from cervical cancer cells taken on February 8, 1951[2] from Henrietta Lacks, a patient who eventually died of her cancer on October 4, 1951. The cell line was found to be remarkably durable and prolific as illustrated by its contamination of many other cell lines used in research.

Cell - the functional basic unit of life

Organism - An organism may be either unicellular (a single cell) or, as in the case of humans, comprise many trillions of cells grouped into specialized tissues and organs.

Pap Smear - is a screening test used to detect potentially pre-cancerous and cancerous processes in the end cervical canal (transformation zone) of the female reproductive system.

Gift - is an object given without the expectation of payment.  Although gift-giving might involve an expectation of reciprocity, a gift is meant to be free.

Immortality - is the ability to live forever, or eternal life.

Segregation - is separation of humans into racial groups in daily life.

Hernreitta Lacks lies rest in her eternal sleep in a unmarked grave.but her story has conquered death by, leaving her cells behind creating immortality. When Hernreitta Lacks  was dying of cancer in John Hopkins Hospital, she received treatment in the colored wing due to segregation. In the times of segregation different wings of the hospital but the same medical treatments.Without her knowledge due to medical percedures of the removel of cells.Doctor George Guy (Head Of Tissue Cultural Research) removed a piece of her tumor. Her cells mutiplied and are alive today.Creating the most important tool in medical history.Hernreitta lacks are essential to cancer, polio vacination, gene mapping, colning, and virtual ferterlization. Her cells have been sold in the trillion dollar market. She received no reconition til now. When a white author Rebecca Sklool reached out to the family.Giving them infomation, and knowledge about their relative and how she gave the gift of life.Rebecca Sklool wrote a book called The Immortal Life Of Hernreitta Lacks.Their is a foundation set in her name that now gives back to the family. Seven of her grandchildren now tend college from the proceeds and the money helps the family with health care.
